SLJ Battle of the Books has a winner!

School Library Journal’s Battle of the Books wound up today with Katherine Paterson judging the final round. The last contestants: The Frog Scientist by Pamela Turner–which was resurrected from the dead by strong reader support, The Lost Conspiracy by Frances Hardinge and Marching for Freedom by Elizabeth Partridge.

Katherine Paterson’s comment on having to choose between a group of books so wonderful and diverse: “This is not a choice between apples and oranges, it’s a choice between apples, orangutans, and orchids.”

Her comments on the books are here. They are all wonderful. This was a great battle, and for my money even better than college basketball.

I’ll get back to Where the Wild Things Are in my next post, promise.
