SLJ’s BoB

We’ll get back to vampires, in particular to M. T. Anderson’s Thirsty, after a quick break to look at School Library Journal’s battle of the books and how it’s progressing, because there is synergy in the universe.

In Match 1 of Round 2 Judge M. T. Anderson picked Charles and Emma over The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. Here is the link to Tobin’s post telling why. Don’t miss it, especially if you’re a writer. Yes, he is really that funny and that analytic in person, too.

In match 2 of Round 2 Angela Johnson picked The Lost Conspiracy over The Last Olympian for much the same reason that I picked The Hunger Games over the Percy Jackson series: The other books are richer and have more depth. There’s more music to the writing, more emotional resonance to the characters. Don’t get me wrong, though, The Last Olympian and all the books of The Lightning Thief series were compelling, fun reads that kept me up late at night reading.
